Honoring the enduring contributions of black active military and veterans. Please join CAM for a day of programs and commemorations highlighting the bravery and the service of black soldiers – from the United States Colored Troops (USCT) to present day. Events for the day are free and open to the public and include “The Ongoing Fight for Freedom: Stories of NC Black Veterans,” a one-man performance by Dr. Sonny Kelly, former U.S. Air Force officer, family programming with storyteller Donna Washington, and living history with USCT re-enactors from across the southeast. CAM’s outdoor sculpture, Boundless, which commemorates the story of the USCT and their fight for freedom, will be a special highlight of the day. Museum admission is free all day long.
